Transportation Improvement Program

JUNE 26 TO JULY 31 2022:

Dixie MPO is seeking public comment on proposed actions on the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP).  Submit all comments to TIPcomments@fivecounty.utah.gov

In January 2021, the MPO identified $3.8 million in funds to be programmed to projects in STIP Year 2022 and 2025. Five separate projects requested these funds:

  • Pedestrian facilities under I-15 at 100 South, St. George (Not Chosen)
  • Gap Canyon Drive, St. George (Not Chosen)
  • Merril Road Extension (Not Chosen)
  • Old 91 Reconstruction / Widening (Funding Amended)

MPO officials voted to program the STIP Year 2025 funds as follows:

  1. $2.95 million to partially fund a new interchange at Washington City’s 3650 South and the Southern Parkway (SR-7). Washington City agreed to cover the “local match” requirements plus any additional costs of the project. See the concept report and map links for more information.
  2. $450,000 to fund the design of Purgatory Road between SR-9 and SR-7. Hurricane City agreed to cover the “local match” requirements plus any additional costs of the project. See the concept report and map links for more information.
  3. An additional $450,000 was programmed to increase the federal funding amount for the Old Highway 91 project. Ivins City agreed to cover the “local match” requirements plus any additional costs of the project. See the concept report and map This action was accomplished as a TIP amendment after a previous public comment period.

The Utah State Legislature and the Utah Department of Transportation also programmed funds to the following projects within Washington County:

The MPO will also program all eligible Federal Transit Authority funds to transit services within Washington County, including the current transit lines in St. George, Ivins, Washington City, along with an anticipated transit line between St. George and Springdale. A copy of the draft July 2021 TIP document may be reviewed HERE or at the Five County Association of Governments office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. M-F until July 31, 2021 (1070 W. 1600 S.; Bldg. B; St. George, Utah).

The review and comment period on the proposed documents closed on July 31, 2021. Another comment period will open in July 2022.
